What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy healing method. It is a therapy option that promotes relaxation, decreases anxiety and discomfort that promotes stress reduction, relaxation and pain control and is an effective healing touch therapy. It was discovered in 1922 by Mikoa Usui in 1922 and is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by laying hands directly on the body or by hovering the hands over the recipient’s body.
This method works because we all have a life force energy that flows through us. Ki (Chi, Prana) flows through pathways called chakras, meridian and nadis, as well as around our energy field called our aura. A healthly flow nourishes our bodies and supports vital systems where as an unhealthy flow can cause disease because it affects our mental and physical body. It is important to release negative energy blockages because these blockages can diminish the vital functions of organs and cells. When receiving reiki, a spiritually conscious part of the energy assesses where the person has blockages and then directs the healing energy, releasing the negative blockages and replaces it with healthy thoughts.
Reiki is also used in hospitals these days because patients experience many stressors in the hospital that can interfere with their healing. Reiki can induce the relaxation response, diminish anxiety, pain, nausea and fatigue, and can enhance the healing process.
Adding crystals to the session is sometimes called vibrational healing. During this healing a crystal is held or placed on the body to help raise vibrations of the individual to allow them to reach to their higher self. Some people feel the effects of the session with the influence of certain crystal energies.
